Tatcha just reformulated the Indigo Overnight Repair, and the ingredient list reads like a completely different product. The old one was a thick, occlusive slug-life savior. This new one is… something else.
The brand swapped the texture and the core actives, so if you loved the original for its heavy, barrier-sealing feel, you’re about to be very confused.
The new formula is still a $92 overnight treatment, but Tatcha calls it a “repair” now, not a “mask.” It’s lighter, but it’s also packed with new actives that the old one never had.
Texture Shift
It’s a gel-cream now, not a heavy butter.
New Actives
They added bakuchiol and squalane—the old one was all about minerals and indigo.
Fragrance Free
Finally. The old one smelled like a spa; this one smells like nothing.

The new formula is actually smarter on paper. It’s less about slathering on a physical barrier and more about signaling your skin to repair itself overnight. The indigo is still there, but it’s playing backup now.
- Bakuchiol: Retinol alternative that smooths without the peeling
- Squalane: Lightweight moisture that sinks in fast
- Indigo: Calms redness, but it’s not the star anymore
- Niacinamide: Shrinks pores and evens tone

First night: it absorbs in about 20 seconds. No greasy pillowcase. My skin felt bouncy, not slick. It’s honestly pleasant—but it’s a totally different experience than the old “wake up with a film on your face” vibe.
Week two: my redness is actually calmer. The bakuchiol is doing work, but it’s not irritating me like retinol usually does. The downside? If you have severely dry skin, this won’t cut it alone in winter. You’ll need a facial oil on top.

My texture is smoother, and my cheeks aren’t as flushed. But my dry patches? Still there. This is a maintenance product, not a rescue one.

It’s better for most people, but worse for the loyalists who made it famous. I respect the glow-up, but I miss the old girl.
