Is Bubble Skincare’s Slam Dunk Actually Clean?

Greenwashing Check
Gen-Z’s favorite niacinamide gel claims ‘clean,’ but its undisclosed fragrance mix says otherwise.
Expert Analysis · Honest Reviews · Real Results
1.🧴Fake Clean, Real Fragrance

So I finally caved and tried Bubble‘s Slam Dunk gel moisturizer. The internet won’t shut up about it, and I needed to know if the “clean” label was legit or just marketing fluff.

Spoiler: it’s not “fragrance-free,” and that’s the whole damn problem. They list “fragrance” on the label, which is a loophole big enough to drive a truck through.

2.💸The $15 Hype Machine

It’s $15 for 2.02 oz. The claim that got me: “Hydrating gel with niacinamide for all skin types.” Sounds perfect, right?

1

The Pump

Dispenses exactly one pea-sized drop at a time. Annoying if you’re in a rush.

2

The Gel Base

Lightweight, water-like. Not a thick cream in disguise.

3

The Scent

Smells like a Bath & Body Works candle. That’s the red flag.

3.🔬What’s Actually Inside

Niacinamide (3%) is the star — it’s great for oil control and fading dark spots. But the undisclosed fragrance mix is a sensitizer waiting to happen. It’s not “clean,” it’s “fragranced with a side of greenwashing.”

  • Niacinamide: Controls oil, brightens over time
  • Glycerin: The real hydrator here
  • Fragrance: Undisclosed mix, potential irritant
  • Hyaluronic Acid: Plumps, but low concentration

4.Sensory Overload

Texture is a dream. It sinks into skin in 10 seconds flat, zero tackiness. The smell though — it’s like grapefruit candy that lingers for 5 full minutes. That’s not “clean,” that’s a cover-up.

Week 2: My oily T-zone looked okay, but my cheeks started flushing after a few days. That’s the fragrance talking, not a reaction to niacinamide.

💡

One Thing: Apply this only at night when your skin’s less exposed to UV. It minimizes the irritation risk from the fragrance during the day.

5.📉The Real Results

My oil production dropped by maybe 30% — that’s real. But the redness? New. My skin didn’t look better overall; it looked neutral with a side of flush.

Buy if
Your skin is tough, not sensitive, and you want a light daytime gel in humid weather.
⏭️

Skip if
You have rosacea, eczema, or any reaction to scented products. Just don’t.
💰

Worth it?
Not for the “clean” claim. If you want the niacinamide, buy The Ordinary’s serum instead.

6.⚖️Bottom Line

It’s a decent $15 gel that works — if you ignore the fake “clean” badge. But there’s better out there for less money and zero irritation.
