Is This ‘Clean’ Mascara Actually Clean? A Greenwashing Investigation

Greenwashing Check
We dug into the ‘clean’ claims of this viral mascara to see if its formula holds up to its green marketing.
Expert Analysis · Honest Reviews · Real Results
1.🔍Clean or Just Green?

EcoGlow’s Lash Flash mascara is everywhere. The tube is bamboo, the font is leafy — it screams purity.

But ‘clean’ is a marketing free-for-all. No legal definition. So I read the tiny print.

2.🌿The Pitch

A $28 ‘clean volume’ mascara. They claim it’s 100% free of ‘nasties’ and gives ‘ethical drama.’

1

Bamboo Cap

Feels light, rolls off the vanity constantly.

2

Plant-Based Brush

The bristles are oddly sparse — like a half-bald toothbrush.

3

Water-Resistant

Their site says ‘sweat-proof.’ My eyes say otherwise.

3.⚠️The Ingredient Tea

The first five ingredients are standard mascara base. The ‘hero’ botanicals are at the very end — decoration, not function.

  • Carnauba Wax: Standard hold, not special
  • Jojoba Esters: A nice emollient
  • Aloe Leaf Extract: Last on the list, basically confetti
  • Phenoxyethanol: A synthetic preservative they don’t mention in the ‘free-of’ list

4.📊The Wear Test

The formula is wet. Too wet. Applies clean, but you have to wait a full 60 seconds before blinking or it’s a mess.

By week two, it thickened up. Better separation, less smudging. The tube dries out faster than my ‘dirty’ mascaras, though.

💡

One Thing: Wipe the wand on a tissue before applying. Cuts the wetness, prevents clumps.

5.💚Who It’s For

It gives decent, feathery separation. Zero drama volume. Washes off with warm water — a true win.

Buy if
You have full lashes and just want a polished, easy-to-remove tint.

Skip if
You want volume, hate wet formulas, or have oily lids.
💰

Worth it?
Only if the ‘clean’ label is your top priority. Performance is mid.

6.🤔Final Call

It’s a fine, basic mascara in a bamboo costume. The greenwashing is stronger than the formula.

6.0/10
A decent tint, not a clean revolution.
