My foundation was sliding off my face by lunch. Every single day.
It wasn’t just shine — it was a full-blown oil slick that dissolved my makeup and my confidence.
Effaclar Mat from La Roche-Posay. About $35. They promised 8-hour shine control. I was deeply skeptical.

It’s not magic, it’s chemistry. The key is a combo of oil-absorbing powders and a gentle acid to keep pores clear.
- Silica & Perlite: Microsponges that soak up oil instantly
- LHA: A gentler salicylic acid derivative that exfoliates pore lining
- Glycerin: Lightweight hydration so your skin doesn’t overcompensate with more oil
- Zinc PCA: Helps regulate sebum production long-term

It’s a pale, silky gel-cream. Absorbs in under 10 seconds — leaves a velvety, almost powdery finish. Not sticky at all.
