Everyone’s obsessed with Ilia‘s Super Serum Skin Tint. But ‘clean’ is a marketing black hole.
The real question: is it just expensive tinted skincare, or a legit foundation?
A serum-foundation hybrid. $48. The claim of SPF 40 and skincare benefits sucked me in.
Coverage
Sheer to light — it’s a vibe, not a veil.
SPF 40
Mineral-only zinc oxide. No white cast on my medium skin.
Finish
Dewy. Not “glowy.” Wet-looking if you’re oily.

It’s half skincare serum. Hyaluronic acid and squalane for hydration, niacinamide to calm.
But the SPF means you have to apply a full 1/4 tsp for protection. Who does that?
- Zinc Oxide: mineral sunscreen, can pill
- Squalane: hydration, but can feel slick
- Niacinamide: brightening, but a low concentration
- Hyaluronic Acid: plumping, needs damp skin to work

Texture is slippery. Like a thin, tinted oil. Smells faintly of herbs and hot plastic.
By week two, I noticed it separates in the bottle. You have to shake it like a Polaroid picture.

My skin was hydrated. Redness was toned down. Zero change in pores or fine lines.

It’s a good product pretending to be a miracle. More skincare than makeup.
