So I bought this because the bottle screams “CLEAN” in that soft-focus, spa-day font. Then I flipped it over and squinted at the INCI list.
There’s a reason they don’t put “fragrance” on the front. It hides a whole chemistry set that doesn’t feel super “farm-to-face.”
It’s The Clearing Clarifying Serum, $38 for 1 oz. The pitch: salicylic acid for breakouts without the “stripping” feeling. Yeah, right.
2% BHA Complex
Beta-hydroxy acid to unclog pores, but it’s buffered so it doesn’t hit like a truck.
Zinc PCA
The oil-control guy. Keeps the shine down for about 4 hours, not 8.
Licorice Root Extract
Fades the red marks. This is the only “clean” celeb that actually performs.

Here’s the rub. The first ingredient is Aloe Vera—great. Then comes *Fragrance* and *Citrus Aurantium Dulcis (Orange) Peel Oil*. Essential oils are the original “natural” irritants. They smell expensive but they’re just… a lot for sensitive skin.
- Salicylic Acid: The worker. Clears pores, gets the job done.
- Fragrance: The freeloader. Adds smell, adds zero benefit, causes redness.
- Orange Peel Oil: The wildcard. Phototoxic in sunlight—seriously, wear SPF or get blotchy.
- Propanediol: The helper. A corn-based solvent that makes the texture silky.

Texture is a watery gel that sinks in before you finish your morning scroll. Absorbs in 10 seconds. Smells like a fancy aromatherapy diffuser, which is nice until your skin decides it’s annoyed.
By week two, my chin was clearer, but my cheeks felt tight by noon. That orange oil is no joke.

My breakouts are smaller and less angry. The redness around them? Actually gone. But the new fine lines from dehydration? Also there. It’s a trade-off.

It’s a decent serum trapped in a “clean” costume. The actives work, but the “natural” extras are just marketing fluff that my skin had to pay for.
