I slapped this on at 3pm in 92% humidity and my face didn’t look like an oil slick by 5. That’s not nothing.
The real test? I fell asleep with it on, woke up, and my pillowcase was still clean. No weird shiny transfer. That’s rare for a “gel cream” that actually hydrates.
It’s Bubble Skincare‘s Slam Dunk Moisturizer — $16, 50ml, and they claim it’s “weightless hydration” for oily/combo skin. I rolled my eyes, but the reviews were too loud to ignore.
Water-gel texture
Feels like nothing on skin. Actually nothing — not a film, not a tacky layer.
Fast absorption
I timed it. 12 seconds until my skin felt dry to the touch. Not dry as in stripped — dry as in ready for sunscreen.
No fragrance
Smells like… nothing. Which is exactly what I want when it’s 90 degrees and my face is already angry.

It’s not magic — it’s glycerin, squalane, and a few soothing extracts that actually pull their weight. No retinol, no actives that’ll fry you in the sun.
- Glycerin: draws water into the skin without feeling sticky
- Squalane: mimics your skin’s natural oils so it doesn’t overcompensate with grease
- Niacinamide: calms redness and slowly shrinks pores
- Green tea extract: antioxidant protection that doesn’t irritate

It comes out like a slightly thick gel — almost bouncy. The second it hits warm skin, it melts into water. No white cast, no pilling, no waiting around.
Two weeks in and here’s the surprise: my T-zone is actually less oily. Not dry — just… balanced. I didn’t expect a $16 moisturizer to regulate my sebum, but here we are.
My pores look smaller. Not gone — that’s a filter lie — but less noticeable. My skin stopped feeling tight by noon, which is usually when my moisturizer gives up.
It’s the best drugstore gel-cream I’ve tried for humid weather — and I’ve tried a lot. Just don’t expect it to fix dry patches or do anything fancy.
