Cocokind slaps “clean” on the bottle like a badge of honor. But check the label — there are two things they don’t list: preservatives and a real stabilizer.
That “minimalist” formula? It’s a ticking clock. Without proper preservation, this serum can go rancid faster than your leftover guac.
It’s a $22 barrier repair serum. The claim: strengthen your skin with just 5 ingredients. I bought it because I’m tired of 20-step routines that smell like a chemistry lab.

Three stars here: Squalane (hydration), Tamanu oil (calming), and something called “Cocokind’s fermented blend” — a fancy term for leftover rice water. The fourth ingredient is water. The fifth is xanthan gum, a thickener. That’s it.
- Squalane: mimics your skin’s natural oils — sinks in fast
- Tamanu Oil: green-tinged and weird-smelling but great for redness
- Fermented Rice Water: gentle exfoliation, but weak concentration
- Xanthan Gum: makes it spreadable — nothing more
First pump: cold, slippery, disappears in 12 seconds flat. No film. No tackiness. My face felt like I’d just splashed it with cool water — but slightly plumper.
Week two: I got a tiny whitehead on my chin. Not the serum’s fault — I think. By week three, my skin stopped feeling tight after washing. That’s the real win.
My redness dropped maybe 20%. Not gone — just less angry. The biggest change? My moisturizer actually stays put now instead of pilling. That alone is worth the price.
It’s clean-ish. Not greenwashed — just under-preserved. A solid barrier helper that won’t last in your bathroom cabinet forever.
