I slapped this on before walking into a literal steam bath of a subway station in NYC last week. 90% humidity, 20 minute walk, zero shine at the end.
Most “matte” SPFs just swap oil for chalk. This one actually disappears. My friend asked if I was wearing foundation. I wasn’t.
Coola calls it Peptide Sun Silk SPF 50. $52 for 1.7 oz. The claim that got me: “velvet-matte finish that lasts 12 hours.” I rolled my eyes. Then I tested it.
Silk powder complex
Sucks up oil without making your face look like a dry croissant. You can actually move your face.
SPF 50, broad spectrum
Zinc oxide + avobenzone. No white cast if you blend fast enough. I have medium skin and it vanished in about 10 seconds.
Peptide complex
Sounds fancy. Basically keeps your skin from feeling tight after the SPF dries. It works.

No fragrance. No essential oils. My reactive skin didn’t throw a tantrum — that’s rare for a “matte” product. The ingredients actually do stuff, not just sit there looking pretty on a label.
- Copper tripeptide: Plumps fine lines without stinging
- Zinc oxide: The real SPF workhorse, sits on top of skin
- Squalane: Lightweight moisture so your barrier doesn’t hate you
- Silica: The oil-sucking secret weapon that feels like nothing

It comes out like a lightweight lotion. Thin. Almost runny. I used three pumps and it melted in faster than I could finish my coffee. Zero stickiness.
Week two surprise: I forgot to reapply at the beach and didn’t burn. Not mad. Only downside? If you have dry patches, exfoliate first. It’ll cling.

After three weeks, my pores looked smaller. Not “instagram filter” smaller, but noticeable. No breakouts. No new fine lines. My oil production actually calmed down — weird side effect but I’ll take it.

Best summer SPF I’ve used in years. Won’t make you look greasy, won’t make you break out, won’t make you cry in the bathroom mirror. It just works.
