I slapped the Vanilla Milk Toner on one side of my face and a $9 drugstore rose mist on the other. Guess which one made me look like I’d actually slept?
The rebrand stripped the “Kylie” ego off the bottles — but the $600M marketing machine is still baked into the price tag. So I tested this blind against my cheap staples to see if it’s real or just rich-girl placebo.
Kylie Cosmetics relaunched Skin by Kylie with 9 products, all under $50. The claim: “dermatologist-approved” and “clean” — which is code for “we removed the fragrance but kept the markup.”
The Toner
Feels like water, works like a gentle acid — no sting, zero residue.
The Face Cream
Thick enough for winter, but sinks in before your second coffee.
The Serum
A sticky gel that dries down weirdly matte — I hated it for 3 days, then my pores started looking like they’d been photoshopped.

Niacinamide is the loudest name on the box, but the real MVP is the sodium hyaluronate — it pulls moisture in without that “I just swam” wet look. No actives at crazy percentages, so it won’t fix your life, but it won’t wreck your barrier either.
- Niacinamide: Calms redness and tightens pores slowly
- Sodium Hyaluronate: Hydrates deeper than plain hyaluronic acid
- Ceramides: Glue for your skin barrier — non-negotiable for dry types
- Centella Asiatica: Fancy name for ‘soothes the angry patches’

First pump of the face cream — I thought it was a dupe for a $60 luxury tube. It’s dense but not greasy, and it leaves a soft-focus finish that makes you touch your own cheek like a weirdo.
Week two: my red patches (the ones around my nose that never quit) calmed down. But the serum? It pilled under sunscreen — so I only use it at night now. That’s a real annoyance, not a dealbreaker.

My skin got calmer, more even, and a little bouncier. My blackheads? Still there. My fine lines? Still waving at me. This is maintenance, not a miracle.

It’s a solid, boring, well-made line that loses to The Ordinary on actives but beats it on feel. If you want a luxe experience without the luxury price — buy the cream, skip the hype.
