I bought this because my kid screamed like I was sandpapering his face every morning. The stick? He called it a “turtle shell” and applied it himself.
That’s the whole game. If a five-year-old applies their own SPF without a hostage negotiation, you win the day.
This is Supergoop!’s mineral SPF 50 stick for kids. $20 at Sephora. I tried it because the label said “tear-free” and I am a sucker for a promise that might save my sanity.
No white cast
It rubs in clear in about 15 seconds. No ghost face for the school photos.
Mess-free applicator
The stick is twist-up. No goop on fingers. No screaming about “icky hands.”
Water resistant (80 min)
Survives a splash pad session. Not a pool marathon.

Zinc oxide is the only active here — 22.5%. No oxybenzone, no octinoxate, no fragrance. It’s reef-safe, which my kid doesn’t care about but the turtles do.
- Zinc Oxide (22.5%): Physical blocker, sits on top of skin, no absorption
- Coconut Oil: Smells like vacation, helps the stick glide
- Sunflower Seed Oil: Non-greasy moisture, doesn’t clog pores
- Vitamin E: Antioxidant, calms redness if they rub their eyes

First swipe felt like a crayon on dry paper. But once it warms up on skin — the back of my hand, then his cheek — it turns into a thin, silky layer. No stickiness. No greasy residue on the car seat.
Two weeks in: he actually asks for it. The stick doesn’t melt in the car (I left it in a hot minivan — still solid). Downside: you have to swipe about four passes per cheek to get full coverage. It’s not a one-and-done.

No burns after a full day at the playground (reapplied once). No stinging eyes. No tantrums. That’s a win in my book.
This isn’t the most powerful mineral SPF on the market — but it’s the one your kid will actually wear without a fight. That’s worth the price.
