My DMs are flooded. Everyone’s asking the same thing: did La Roche-Posay ruin the Toleriane cleanser?
The panic is real because for years, this was the one thing you could use after retinoids or a bad reaction — and it never, ever stung.
It’s the Toleriane Hydrating Gentle Cleanser. About $15. The claim? “Maintains skin’s natural pH and moisture barrier.” The old one nailed it.
New Pump
Feels cheaper — the lock is flimsy now.
Fragrance-Free
Still true, thankfully. No added perfume.
For Sensitive Skin
The whole point. But the formula feels… different.

The new list is longer. They kept the ceramides and niacinamide, but the base cleansers changed. That’s the red flag.
- Ceramide-3: Repairs barrier lipids
- Niacinamide: Calms redness
- Glycerin: Draws in water
- Sodium Laureth Sulfate: A gentle-ish foamer (this is new)

The texture is thinner — more slippery milk than creamy lotion. It still rinses clean, but with a whisper of tightness the old one never had.
By week two, my cheeks felt vaguely thirsty. Not dry, but that plump, cushioned feeling was gone. My skin just felt… neutral.
My redness stayed calm. But I needed a heavier moisturizer afterward. It cleanses fine — it just doesn’t *hydrate* like it used to.
It’s a decent cleanser now, not a miraculous one. The reformulation traded some gentleness for a more universal feel.
