Merit is asking $28 for a lipstick that can trace its pigment to a single farm in Provence. And I’m not mad about it — because the color actually made me stop mid-conversation to check my reflection.
The rebrand leans hard into “radical transparency,” which normally makes me roll my eyes so hard I see my own brain. But the shade range got a serious glow-up — the new reds have this weird, almost dusty depth that cheaper formulas fake with shimmer.
$28. Satin cream finish. The claim that every pigment batch is traceable to that one farm in the Luberon — which is either brilliant marketing or obsessive, and honestly both work for me.
The Slick Stick
Slides on like a balm, sets in 60 seconds, then refuses to budge through coffee.
The Pigment Density
One swipe gives you that “my lips but better” that actually shows up on pigmented lips.
The Scent
Smells like a faint vanilla latte — not the usual cheap lipstick crayon.

The hero is a shea butter from the same Provençal region, plus a squalane that does the heavy lifting for hydration. No drying alcohols, no synthetic fragrance — just a bunch of stuff that sounds like a salad dressing but works.
- Shea Butter: deep moisture that lasts 4+ hours
- Squalane: mimics skin’s natural oils for slip
- Jojoba Ester: creates that soft-focus blur
- Vitamin E: antioxidant protection, nothing sexy

First swipe feels like a warm knife through butter — but the real shocker was the finish. It’s not glossy, not matte, but this weird “lived-in” satin that makes your lips look like you just ate a popsicle.
Week two update: the shade “Atelier” oxidized slightly darker on me, which I actually loved. But the tube is heavy — like, purse-crushing heavy. That’s the farm-to-face branding weight, I guess.

My lips stayed hydrated through a 10-hour workday — no cracking, no patchiness. But the “traceable pigment” thing? I can’t tell you if the red is more ethical; I can tell you it’s the first red that doesn’t make my teeth look yellow.

It’s a genuinely good lipstick hiding behind a farm-to-face story that’s easier to swallow than most. Buy it for the formula, not the philosophy.
