Native’s Coconut & Vanilla deodorant is everywhere. It smells like a beach vacation and promises to be ‘clean.’ But is it?
The real question isn’t the scent—it’s whether their “naturally derived” label holds up under a microscope.
It’s a $14 stick. I bought it because Native swears it’s aluminum-free and uses “simple, plant-based ingredients.” A bold claim.
Aluminum-Free
Yes, but that’s the bare minimum for a natural deodorant.
24-Hour Odor Protection
A classic, unproven claim in the deodorant world.
Sensitive Skin Formula
No baking soda—their big selling point against irritation.

Here’s the thing: “naturally derived” is a marketing term, not a safety one. The hero ingredient is magnesium hydroxide—it’s a mineral, not a plant.
- Caprylic/Capric Triglyceride: Fancy name for coconut oil fraction.
- Magnesium Hydroxide: The actual odor fighter—works like baking soda but gentler.
- Sodium Bicarbonate: Still in here, just less of it.
- Tapioca Starch: The sweat absorber.

The texture is thick—like cold coconut butter. You have to warm it up on your skin for 5 seconds or it drags. The vanilla scent is strong, almost cloying.
By week two, I noticed a waxy residue on my black t-shirts. Not stains, but a faint, ghostly film. Annoying.

For low-key days, it’s fine. Smells great out of the tube. But after a stressful commute or a workout? It taps out by hour 6. You’ll smell like vanilla… and sweat.

It’s a decent natural deodorant, but “clean” is a stretch. This is greenwashing-lite—better than some, but don’t expect miracles.
