I bought the new 2026 Nivea tin out of pure spite. The internet said they “modernized” the texture, and I was ready to riot.
Then I put it on my face. It doesn’t sit on my skin like a layer of Crisco anymore — it actually sinks in before I can finish brushing my teeth. That’s a bigger change than they’re admitting.
It’s still $9 for the giant blue tub that lasts three lifetimes. The claim is the same — “100% effective moisture” — but the finish is completely different.
No More Grease Tray
It absorbs in about 30 seconds flat, versus the old version’s 10-minute oil slick.
Scent Is Softer
The classic grandma perfume is still there, but it fades fast. It’s less “powder room,” more “clean soap.”
Melts Different
The texture is fluffier. Like whipped butter instead of a solid brick.

They swapped the old-school water-in-oil emulsion for a lighter oil-in-water formula. It’s still heavy-duty, but the delivery system is completely different — which is why it feels so much less suffocating.

First touch: it’s thicker than a lotion, thinner than the old formula. It spreads like cold butter — satisfying, a little weird, definitely not runny.
Week three: my winter lizard-skin shins are actually smooth, and my hands aren’t sticky after applying. That’s a first. The downside? It doesn’t leave that protective “glove” feeling anymore — so if you use it to shield your face from freezing wind, you’ll feel the difference.
