Phlur launched Father Figure with zero celeb names attached. Just a weird, cryptic Instagram post and a waitlist that literally crashed their site in 12 minutes.
That’s not marketing hype — I watched the 503 error happen on my laptop. The brand’s co-founder said they had to call Shopify support at 2am. Very unglamorous. Very real.
It’s an Eau de Parfum, $100 for 50ml. The claim that got me: “fig milk meets suede.” Vague enough to be intriguing, specific enough to feel intentional.
The fig note
Not sweet fig jam. Green fig. Like you picked it too early and it’s still a little angry.
The suede accord
Soft but not powdery. Smells like an expensive jacket you’re scared to wear in the rain.
The longevity
6 hours on skin. 8 on clothes. Better than most $200+ fragrances I’ve tried.
No synthetic vanilla or candy musk. The perfumer (Honorine Blanc — she did some of the best Tom Fords) built this around three weirdly specific ingredients. It’s not trying to smell like dessert.
- Fig Leaf: Gives that green, almost bitter opening — not sweet at all
- Suede Accord: Synthetic but smells more real than real suede
- Cashmeran: Adds warmth without turning into a basic amber bomb
- Cedarwood: Keeps it dry. Stops it from going soapy.
First spray: sharp green. Almost like you crushed a fig leaf between your fingers. Then it warms up on your skin — the suede comes out about 10 minutes in. It’s intimate. Not a room-filler. Someone has to lean in to smell you.
Week 3: I started noticing it on my scarves days later. That’s the weird flex — it clings to wool like a memory. Also: my boyfriend, who never comments on perfume, said “you smell like a forest but make it sexy.” I’m still processing that.
I’ve worn it to 3 dinners and got 2 compliments from strangers. One asked if I was wearing “something with leather.” That’s the target demo: people who want to smell expensive but not try-hard.
Father Figure is the rare fragrance that actually lives up to its name: comforting, a little distant, and somehow both modern and nostalgic. It’s the scent you wear when you don’t need to impress anyone — you just want to smell like yourself.
