No toner can shrink your pores. Let’s just get that out of the way.
They’re not muscles. They can’t open and close. The entire premise is a marketing myth.
The Paula’s Choice Pore Refining Toner is $33. The claim? Minimize the appearance of pores. I tested it for a month.

It’s a chemical exfoliant in toner clothing. The BHA (salicylic acid) dissolves the oil and dead skin inside pores. That’s the whole trick.
- Salicylic Acid: Unclogs pores from the inside out
- Niacinamide: Helps regulate sebum, not magic
- Green Tea: Antioxidant to soothe
- Allantoin: Calms any potential irritation

Texture is water-thin — absorbs before you can blink. Smells faintly medicinal, like a lab.
By week two, my nose looked… cleaner. Not smaller. The blackheads were just gone, leaving the same pores but empty. Weird visual.
My pores didn’t shrink. They just stopped being full of junk. Huge difference in appearance, zero change in actual size.
It’s a fantastic product for the wrong reason. Buy it to clean pores, not shrink them.
