I used to hate the first step. Oil cleansers are messy, balms tug. This is different.
The real trick? You apply it to a dry face. That’s the whole secret. It grips the makeup before it melts.
It’s a $10 jelly cleanser from e.l.f.. The claim that got me: “melts waterproof mascara.” I had to test that.
Dry Skin Application
Apply to a completely dry face—no water yet.
Melt Phase
Massage until it turns from jelly to a silky oil.
Emulsify & Rinse
Add water to milk it out, then rinse clean. Zero film.

It’s not just fancy goo. The base is caprylic/capric triglycerides—a light, makeup-dissolving oil. Plus some skin-soothers to balance the cleanse.
- Jojoba Esters: Mimics skin’s oils to break down makeup without clogging
- Glycerin: Pulls hydration into the skin during the rinse
- Niacinamide: Helps calm any post-cleanse redness
- Allantoin: Soothes—a must if you’re cleansing twice

Feels like cool, thick hair gel. Sticky at first—then it slides over your skin like a slip-n-slide for grime.
After two weeks, my sink is cleaner. No more oily residue ring from my old balm. A win I didn’t expect.

My waterproof Heroine Make mascara finally met its match. No raccoon eyes after step one. Skin feels balanced—not stripped, not greasy.

It’s the most fun, functional first cleanse I’ve found. Makes the routine feel less like a chore.
