You know that tight, squeaky-clean feeling after washing? That’s not clean — that’s your skin barrier crying for help. The culprit isn’t your cleanser’s strength, it’s its pH.
Most foaming washes sit around pH 8-9. Your skin wants ~4.5-5.5. Prequel Skin gets this. Gleanser sits at a 5.0, which is basically a peace treaty for dry, cranky skin.
It’s a gel-to-milk cleanser. $16 for 16 ounces — yes, that’s a lot of product. Dermatologists keep name-dropping it, so I caved.
pH 5.0 Formula
Skips the alkaline assault that leaves your face feeling like parchment.
Glycerin-First Base
Glycerin is the first ingredient — not water, not sulfates. It pulls moisture in while you wash.
No Fragrance, No Dyes
Zero essential oils. Zero “fresh scent” nonsense. Just clean.

This isn’t a 12-step ingredient circus. It’s a short list of things that make sense. The glycerin does the heavy lifting, but there are two quiet heroes that surprised me.
- Glycerin: Draws water into the skin instead of stripping it
- Niacinamide: Calms redness and strengthens the barrier while you cleanse
- Panthenol (B5): Soothes that angry, post-wash flush
- Allantoin: Gentle exfoliation that doesn’t feel like sandpaper

It comes out like a clear, thin gel. Rubs in slippery, then turns milky. Rinses off with zero resistance — no film, no residue, just soft. My face felt like it had been dipped in lukewarm water, not washed.
Week two: the tightness around my nose and jaw? Gone. But here’s the weird part — it doesn’t foam. At all. If you need bubbles to feel clean, this will mess with your head. Get over it.

My flaky chin patch disappeared in 4 days. My moisturizer started absorbing in 10 seconds instead of sitting on top like a greasy film. But my T-zone? Still gets oily by 3pm. It didn’t fix my oil production — it just stopped making everything worse.

CeraVe is fine. Gleanser is better. It’s the difference between a cleanser that tolerates your dry skin and one that actually fixes the root problem.
