Tatcha quietly swapped the formula on The Water Cream — and nobody told us. Same jar, different juice.
The old version went on like silk. The new one? It sits there for a second before sinking in. That split-second pause is driving people insane.
$72 for 1.7 oz of “oil-free pore minimizing” cream. The claim that got me: 70% hydration boost, instant blur effect.
Texture Shift
Old formula was a gel-cream cloud. New one is thicker — think pudding vs. mousse.
Pore Blur
Still works, but you need 30 seconds to pat it in now. Rubbing ruins the effect.
Scent
Same light botanical smell. At least they didn’t mess with that.

They swapped out some silicones for more plant-based polymers. Sounds good on paper — in practice, it’s less slip, more sitting-on-top feel. The hero ingredients are still there, just in different ratios.
- Japanese Wild Rose: tightens pores without stripping
- Hyaluronic Acid: pulls water in, but new formula needs more patting to absorb
- Green Tea: antioxidant base, unchanged
- Okinawa Algae: still the texture backbone, just less of it

First pump — weirdly thick. I thought I got a bad batch. Then it warms up and melts into this almost-oily finish before drying down matte. Takes about 15 seconds vs the old 5. That 10-second difference is everything.
Week two: my pores look smaller, but my forehead feels slightly tacky by 3 PM. Never happened with the old version. I’m not mad — I’m just… adjusting.
Pores are visibly smaller after 3 weeks. Hydration is solid — but the finish is less “glass skin” and more “healthy satin.” My T-zone stopped getting that midday grease, which I didn’t expect.
It’s still good — just different. The old one was an instant love. This one’s a slow burn that needs a learning curve.
