Okay, so I finally caved and tried the Then I Met You Gentle Cleanse after seeing it all over my feed. The hype is real for melting off SPF, but I was terrified it would leave my dry patches feeling like a drum.
Spoiler: it didn’t. But it also wasn’t the dewy, milky cleanse I expected. It’s a weird middle ground — and that’s exactly why it works.
It’s a $38 gel-to-milk cleanser. The brand claims it “dissolves the day away” without stripping. I was skeptical — gel cleansers are usually my enemy in the winter.
Balm-like start
It starts thick and jelly-ish, like a solid honey — not a watery gel.
Milky switch-up
The second you add water, it turns into a soft milk. Weird and delightful.
No foam party
It barely foams. If you need bubbles to feel clean, this will freak you out.

It’s packed with fermented rice water and a bunch of oils, but it doesn’t feel heavy. The hero is papaya extract — it gently eats away dead skin without the harsh scrub feeling.
- Fermented Rice Water: Brightens and softens over time
- Papaya Extract: Gentle enzyme exfoliation
- Camellia Oil: Sinks in, doesn’t sit on top
- Fig Extract: Locks in moisture post-rinse

First use: it glides on like a thick balm, then turns into a slippery milk. Rinsing off took a solid 20 seconds — it’s not a quick splash situation. My face felt *clean* but not tight. Then came the surprise.
By week two, my chin flakes were gone. Not “less visible” — gone. But my cheeks felt slightly dehydrated if I didn’t moisturize within 60 seconds. It’s not a moisturizing cleanser; it’s a *non-stripping* one. There’s a difference.

My texture is smoother, and my makeup applies better over my nose. But my skin isn’t more hydrated — it’s just less angry. If you’re a true dry-skin girlie, you still need your cream cleanser in rotation.

It’s a fantastic *occasional* cleanser for dry skin — the kind you reach for when you need to reset, not every night. Keep your heavy-duty cream cleanser for the deep winter months.
