Kathleen Lights slapped “clean” on this balm and I rolled my eyes so hard I saw my brain. But then I used it for two weeks and now I’m annoyed — because it’s actually good.
The real issue? “Clean” is marketing mush. This formula has zero fragrance, no essential oils, and skips the polyethylene microplastics most balms use for that slippy feel. That’s genuinely rare.
It’s $28 for 3.4 oz. The claim that got me: “gentle enough for reactive skin, effective enough to dissolve SPF.” Bold. I tested it against my waterproof sunscreen and a full face of stage makeup.
Texture switch-up
Melts to oil in 15 seconds — but rinses off like a milk cleanser, not a greasy film
No tug zone
Glides over a full face without dragging your eye area — even with lash glue
The rinse test
Emulsifies completely. No second cleanse needed unless you’re wearing heavy foundation

The base is caprylic/capric triglyceride (coconut-derived) and glycerin — nothing scary. The hero move: they used sodium cocoamphoacetate as the emulsifier instead of the harsher sulfosuccinates most “gentle” balms sneak in. It’s the ingredient list of a high-end French pharmacy brand, not an influencer cash grab.
- Caprylic/Capric Triglyceride: Dissolves makeup without stripping your moisture barrier
- Glycerin: Holds water in your skin so you don’t get that tight feeling
- Coco-Caprylate: Silicone alternative — gives slip without suffocating pores
- Tocopherol: Vitamin E to offset any oxidation from oils

First scoop: it’s denser than Clinique’s Take The Day Off — like a firm shea butter that melts fast. No grit. No sliding around your face like a slip-n-slide. Rinses off with warm water and leaves zero residue — I wiped with a cotton pad after and got nothing.
Week three: my rosacea flares are quieter. I usually get red patches around my nose after cleansing — this didn’t happen once. What surprised me: it didn’t break me out. Most balms with this much oil give me chin bumps by day four.

Makeup removal: flawless. Eye makeup: gone in one pass, no raccoon eyes. Redness: actually calmer after rinsing. Pores: same size, not worse. It didn’t cure my acne, but it didn’t feed it — which is a win.

It’s “clean” in the ways that matter — no allergens, no microplastics, no empty promises. My skin drinks it up and my makeup ghosts. That’s enough for me.
