Every other girl in my DMs is washing her face with this thing, so I caved. But the branding screams “gentle, clean, derm-approved” — and the ingredient list tells a slightly different story.
It’s not bad. It’s just not the minimalist saint the internet made it out to be.
It’s a $17 drugstore gel cleanser from Prequel that claims to be “gluten-free, fragrance-free, and non-comedogenic.” The texture is a slippery, almost snot-like gel that feels like nothing — which is exactly why I kept using it.
Polyglutamic Acid
Not hyaluronic acid — this holds more water on the skin and doesn’t pull moisture out of your barrier.
Glycerin
The real workhorse. It’s the 2nd ingredient, so your face doesn’t feel like a drum after rinsing.
Caprylyl Glycol
A preservative booster that also functions as a mild humectant. Boring but necessary.

Here’s where the “clean” narrative gets fuzzy. It’s sulfate-free, sure, but it’s not a pure, stripped-back formula — it’s a carefully engineered surfactant blend that’s *mild*, not *natural*.
That’s fine. Just know you’re paying for chemistry, not a farm-to-face fantasy.
- Sodium Cocoyl Isethionate: A coconut-derived surfactant that’s gentle but still a detergent
- Disodium EDTA: A chelator that stabilizes the formula, not a ‘toxin’
- Citric Acid: Balances pH, but can be sensitizing at high percentages
- Phenoxyethanol: A safe preservative that ‘clean’ brands love to hide

It comes out of the pump like a runny, clear syrup. One pump is enough for your whole face — it doesn’t foam much, which freaked me out at first. Rinses off in 15 seconds with zero residue.
Week two: my skin looked calmer, but the “glow” everyone raves about? That’s just the glycerin film tricking your eye. It’s flattering, not transformative.

My redness went down about 30% — not gone, but visibly less angry. The closed comedones on my chin? Still there. It didn’t break me out, which is a win, but it didn’t fix anything either.

It’s a reliable, no-frills cleanser that respects your barrier — just don’t buy the “clean” fairytale. It’s a smart formula, not a pure one.
