You bought it for glowing skin, but this stuff is basically a Swiss Army knife in a fancy bottle. I’ve used it for everything except its actual job this week.
The de-puffing eye trick alone is worth the price of admission — I pressed a few drops under my eyes before concealer and my 5am flight face looked almost human.
It’s a watery-gel essence from Sulwhasoo, priced at $90. I bought it because the “first care” claim — it’s meant to be the first thing you put on after cleansing — sounded like bullshit, but I was curious.
Absorbs in 10 seconds
No sticky residue, no waiting around. This is the fastest-drying essence I own.
Plays nice with everything
Layers under sunscreen, moisturizer, or foundation without pilling. Even the cheap ones.
Smells like a fancy spa
That herbal pine scent is weirdly calming at 7am. You’ll either love it or want to return it.

The star is the JAUM Balancing Complex — Sulwhasoo’s proprietary blend of five herbs. It’s not gimmicky; it genuinely calms redness. I have sensitive skin that freaks out at everything, and this is one of the few things that doesn’t make me blotchy.
- Licorice root: Brightens dark spots slowly but surely
- Peony extract: Calms inflammation fast
- Ginseng: Plumps fine lines temporarily
- Honey: Locks in moisture without greasiness

Texture is like water with a tiny bit of slip. It sinks in before you finish your other hand. I was skeptical about the de-puffing claim until I tried it on an actual puffy morning after too much wine.
By week two, I’d discovered five more uses. That’s where the real magic is.

1. Eye de-puffer — press in with ring finger. 2. Makeup reviver — mix into dried-out foundation. 3. Hair flyaway fixer — rub between palms, smooth down. 4. Cuticle softener — yes, really. 5. Post-shave soother — no razor burn. 6. Hand mask base — layer under your hand cream.
My skin texture is smoother, but my dark circles are still there. It’s not a miracle worker, just a great multitasker.

It’s the best multitasker I own, but not the best essence. If you want one thing that does everything, this is it. If you’re a purist, save your money.
